Bud Lake and Randy Brewer Crow Indian Photograph Collection
Details
Collection SummaryThis digital collection consists of 1,094 images of photographic prints from the collection of Bud Lake and Randy Brewer, Lot 035 in the Montana Historical Society Photograph Archives. The collection largely documents the life, dress, work, and customs of people living on the Crow Indian Reservation from the 1870s to the 1950s. There are also photographs displaying the landscapes of the area traditionally inhabited by the Crow people and showing Native Americans from other tribes such as the Cheyenne. Among the photographers well-represented in the collection are Alfred Baumgartner, Ralph R. Doubleday, O. S. Goff, Fred E. Miller, Kenneth F. Roahen, and Richard Throssel. Lake and Brewer diligently collected these photos over many years as they studied and grew familiar with Crow people and their history and culture. The Montana Historical Society digitized the entire collection in 2019 with the support of many donors.Contributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesRelated CollectionPhotographs from the Montana Historical Society
