DescriptionThe community of Alhambra grew slowly, helped by the construction of 7 coke kilns to process the gold and silver ore mined nearby. The hot springs here did not flourish as a commercial venture until the arrival of the Montana Central Railway, which connected Helena and Butte in 1888. Judge Wilson Redding developed Alhambra Hot Springs (a misspelling of Alhama, the renowned Spanish spa), after purchasing the springs from Sylvenius Dustin in 1888. Alhambra Hot Springs Resort operated until a fire destroyed the hotel in 1959.
