DescriptionNamed for fur trapper Michael Immell and referred to by Kit Carson, Jim Bridger, and John Colter as Emmel’s Fork of the Yellowstone, this stream over time became known as Armells Creek. In 1859, Capt. William F. Raynolds, leader of the Raynolds Expedition, which conducted a topographical survey of the Yellowstone area, reported in his journal that the area along the creek was “literally black with buffalo.”Personal NamesImmell, Michael Raynolds, William F.Other Name(s)Emmel's Fork of the YellowstoneContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] CountyRosebud County
