DescriptionIn June 1875, the Commissioner of Indian Affairs authorized construction of a new Blackfeet agency 50 miles north of the original agency, along the banks of Badger Creek (one of several creeks in Montana named for this fur-bearing mammal). This site southeast of Browning is only a few miles from the place where Capt. Meriwether Lewis and his party had skirmished with and killed 2 Blackfeet warriors 69 years earlier.
