DescriptionThis creek on the eastern flank of the Crazy Mountains derives its name from a group of very large cottonwood trees that stood at the creek’s confluence with the Yellowstone River. Capt. William Clark described this spot as “Rivers Across” when the expedition passed by on July 18, 1806. In the 1920s, the Van Cleve family bought a ranch in Big Timber Canyon and renamed it the Lazy K Bar Ranch, which they have operated as a dude ranch ever since.Personal NamesVan CleveContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] CountySweet Grass County
