DescriptionBeginning in 1892, 50 Crow laborers and their horse teams worked under contractor William F. Graves to build the ditch, which irrigated 35,000 acres. The Crows were at this time in transition, adapting to an agrarian lifestyle on the reservation, and the project, completed in 1904, was conceived as a way to provide the laborers instruction in construction techniques. The Bighorn Ditch is listed in the National Register.Personal NamesGraves, William F.
