DescriptionConstruction on this CCC camp began in April 1935. Some 200 workers, many from the East Coast, worked at Camp Birch Creek, named for its proximity to Birch Creek. Under the direction of the USFS, the camp emphasized educational programs and provided classes in a variety of subjects. Young CCC men were employed at Camp Birch Creek until 1941. The site is one of the few that remain of 61 CCC camps in Montana. The University of Montana–Western in nearby Dillon now leases this facility in the Beaverhead- Deerlodge National Forest.Other Name(s)Camp Birch CreekContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation6501 ft.
