DescriptionIn 1891, the West Gallatin Irrigation Company recruited Dutch settlers to grow malting barley to supply the Manhattan Malting Company. By 1893, the town, originally known as Godfrey, had become the Holland Settlement, and 40 Dutch families made their homes here by 1904. These close-knit settlers associated themselves with the Montana Presbyterian Church but later established a Dutch Reformed Church. In 1911, the settlers named the community for the Christian Reformed church that stood on a hill above town. The Dutch farmers here later grew seed peas and seed potatoes.Other Name(s)Church HillGodfreyContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation4573 ft.CountyGallatin County
