DescriptionAfter the 1864 discovery of placer gold here, 1,000 men and women poured into Confederate Gulch, creating the town of Diamond City. The gulch’s name is related to the large number of ex-Confederate soldiers and sympathizers among the early residents. By 1871, placer gold had diminished and Diamond City’s population collapsed.Other Name(s)Diamond CityContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation3799 ft.
