DescriptionSometime in early 1900, the Great Northern Railway station named Galt was renamed Ethridge. Sir Alexander Galt, of Montreal, was a prominent Canadian statesman and entrepreneur. There is a rim to the north, which some note as a “ridge,” but the source of the name Ethridge is unclear. In 1912, George Norman of Cut Bank laid out a townsite, and an agricultural center quickly grew adjacent to the tracks. By 1919, drought had taken a toll on area homesteaders, and by 1926 most of the buildings had been moved to the surrounding oil boomtowns.
