DescriptionTrout populate most western Montana streams, and there are numerous Fish Creeks in the state. This one in Mineral County, in the Bitterroot Range, was home to Andrew Garcia from 1899 until his death in 1943. Garcia arrived in Montana with a herd of Texas cattle in 1868 and worked as a trapper, hunter, and U.S. Army agent during the Indian wars, all of which he recorded in his memoirs, published as Tough Trip through Paradise. On the banks of this Fish Creek stands Montana’s largest ponderosa pine, measuring 75 inches in diameter and 194 feet tall. There is also a Fish Creek in Jefferson County.Personal NamesGarcia, AndrewContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] CountyMineral County
