DescriptionThe dam that flooded Georgetown Flats and created Georgetown Lake was begun in the early 1890s by the Flint Creek Electric Power Company and completed in 1901 by the Montana Water, Electric Power & Mining Company, a subsidiary of the Granite-BiMetallic Consolidated Mining Company of Philipsburg. Wooden flumes carried the water down the canyon to the powerhouse, which generated electricity with Pelton water wheels. In 1907, the owners sold the plant to Amalgamated Copper Company, the parent corporation of the Anaconda Company. Georgetown Lake is a popular recreational destination for residents of Butte, Anaconda, and Philipsburg. Elevation: 6,403 ft.
