DescriptionIn 1912, Great Northern Railway officials decided to build a branch line up the Sun River Valley to tap that rich agricultural region. They chartered the Gilman Townsite Company, named after company officer L. C. Gilman. After intense rivalry between the new town of Gilman and the nearby community of Augusta, Gilman was selected as the western terminus of the line. Many businesses, including a bank, moved from Augusta to Gilman. However, with the failure of the Gilman State Bank in 1923, the town withered and died. Now the only thing left of Gilman is Abraham Lincoln Bradley’s abandoned brick bank building.Personal NamesGilman, L.
