DescriptionNow a ghost town, Sumatra was established in 1905 as a station stop, called Summit, on the Milwaukee Road. Apparently, when the town applied for a post office in 1910, the name was changed to Sumatra, after an Indonesian island, to avoid confusion with the several other Summits already in Montana.
