DescriptionBetween 1905 and 1909, the Northwestern Development Company acquired water rights on the Clark Fork River and, in the 1910s, began constructing a concrete dam across the Clark Fork at Thompson Falls. By 1917, 6 hydroelectric generators were in place. The Montana Power Company acquired the dam and reservoir in 1929. The falls are named for North West Company trader and explorer David Thompson, who established Saleesh House, a fur trading post, in this area in 1809. tyPersonal NamesThompson, DavidContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation2394 ft.
