DescriptionIn 1887, the Montana Central Railway built its line through the narrow Prickly Pear Canyon, and the town of Wolf Creek, named for its location along the creek of the same name, grew to serve the railroad. Englishman Charles Forman built a 10-room, 3-story hotel in a simple, no-frills style. Wolf Creek’s small collection of buildings and homes included Forman’s Wolf Creek Hotel, a livery stable, and a meat company. The hotel catered to the stages that traveled through the canyon during the nineteenth century, and also served railroad travelers on the new railroad. Wolf Creek later served workers building the Holter Dam between 1908 and 1910, gas pipeline laborers in the 1930s, and crews working on the new interstate in the 1960s. Interstate 15 split the town in half, nearly obliterating it. The Wolf Creek Hotel is listed in the National Register.
