DescriptionAlonzo Young established a boat landing on the Yellowstone River near this site and opened a post office named Young’s Point in 1878. A colony of settlers from Ripon, Wisconsin, arrived in 1882, planted a grove of elms and maples, and established their own post office called Park City here. The Northern Pacific Railroad’s main line passed through the community shortly thereafter, and the railroad constructed a station, calling it Rimrock for the sandstone cliffs north of town. The name Park City persisted, however, which prompted railroad officials to establish the railyards and shops at Laurel in retaliation. Today many people who work for the oil refinery and railroad in nearby Laurel make their homes in Park City.Personal NamesYoung, AlonzoOther Name(s)Young's PointRimrockContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation3399 ft.
