DescriptionOriginally called Riba, for lumber merchant Adolph Riba, the town changed its name in 1915 in honor of homesteader Joe Raymond, on whose land the railroad siding and townsite were located. One of the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railway towns in Sheridan County, Raymond boasted a small depot, a coal and lumber mercantile, and one of the area’s most popular dance halls. The post office opened in 1914. Henry Hill, early businessman and resident of Raymond, observed that, because of the remoteness of the area and the fact that Raymond never incorporated, the people who tended to gravitate to the area showed a certain disdain for “cops and sheriffs.” Personal NamesRiba, AdolphRaymond, JoeHill, HenryOther Name(s)RibaContributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation2289 ft.CountySheridan County
