DescriptionIn 1890, the Northern Pacific Railroad founded Rivulet as a water and coal stop for steam engines pulling freight between the Coeur d’Alene Mining District and Missoula. Rivulet gained its name from the numerous little streams in the area. Rail workers and their families made up most of the town’s population. Rivulet’s primary structures were a post office (1903–54), coal dock, school, water pump and tower, and lumber mill. The town’s demise came in 1967 after adoption of the diesel engine allowed trains to go over Lookout Pass without taking on coal and water.Contributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation2923 ft.
