DescriptionAfter staking the King, Czar, Emperor, Rex, and Sultan mining claims in July 1889, area residents created the Monarch Townsite Company, naming it for the common theme of the mining claims. The Montana Central Railway connected Monarch to Great Falls in autumn 1889, and Monarch acted as a hub for materials coming to the mines, as well as a shipping point for ore from the mining camps of Hughesville and Barker. The line continued operation until November 3, 1945. Contributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation4564 ft.CountyCascade County
