DescriptionThe name Monida, credited to a Utah & Northern Railway dispatcher, is derived from the first 3 letters of Montana and Idaho. The Monida post office opened in 1891. From here, tourists wishing to visit Yellowstone National Park caught the Monida and Yellowstone stagecoach which took them through the Centennial Valley to the park. Monida also became the shipping point for Centennial Valley livestock. Contributing InstitutionMontana Historical Society Library and ArchivesGeolocation[1] Elevation6789 ft.CountyBeaverhead County
