DescriptionThe bustling activity of Billings so impressed Preston B. Moss that he relocated here from Missouri in 1892 and became one of Montana’s most diversified investors and a leading Billings entrepreneur and banker. Moss built this red sandstone mansion in 1901–03. The 28-room residence, designed by New York architect R. J. Hardenbergh (whose works include the Waldorf Astoria), features mahogany, birch, oak, ash, and white pine woodwork, an onyx fireplace, rose silk and gold leaf wall coverings, and stained-glass windows. The nonprofit Billings Preservation Society operates tours of the mansion.Personal NamesMoss, Preston B.Hardenbergh, R.
