DescriptionNilan Reservoir is named for John and Margaret Nilan, who homesteaded just west of Augusta in the 1890s. John had come west working for the Canadian Pacific Railroad and then settled in Montana, where in 1888 he married Margaret Owen. She had come to Montana in 1863, a young child of a family who established a ranch in the area in 1882.
