DescriptionThe community of Stoner, named for John J. Stoner, proprietor of a hotel near the shores of Flathead Lake, grew up around Stoner’s business establishment in 1892. Residents wished to call the town Lakeside, but such a place already existed, in Roosevelt County. They settled briefly on Lacon. After the demise of the Roosevelt County community in 1920, this Flathead County town changed its name to Lakeside. West Side State Park is south of town.
