DescriptionThere are 9 Little Beaver Creeks, and even more Beaver Creeks, around the state—testament to the importance of this small fur-bearing mammal. Little Beaver Creek in Fallon County rises in the Chalk Buttes in Carter County and flows into the Little Missouri River in North Dakota. Several exploratory oil wells were drilled near the creek in the 1920s, with no success. In 1936, Montana-Dakota Utilities discovered oil in several wells and built a compressor plant southeast of Baker near Little Beaver Creek.
