Collection SummaryThe Northern Region District 1 newsletters were printed for District 1 forest service members and other members of the US Forest Service from 1920 to 1930. Some of the topics covered in the newsletters are personnel changes, public outreach and instruction, hunting and conservation, forest management, national park data, methodology and tools, and more. The forest areas covered in these editions are Absaroka National Forest, Beartooth National Forest, Beaverhead National Forest, Custer National Forest, Deerlodge National Forest, Gallatin National Forest, Helena National Forest, Jefferson National Forest, Lewis and Clark National Forest, Madison National Forest, Bitterroot National Forest, Blackfoot National Forest, Cabinet National Forest, Flathead National Forest, Kootenai National Forest, Lolo National Forest, Missoula National Forest, Clearwater National Forest, Coeur d’Alene National Forest, Kaniksu National Forest, Nezperce National Forest, Pend Oreille National Forest, Selway National Forest, and St. Joe National Forest. (These forests are now called Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Bitterroot National Forest, Custer Gallatin National Forest, Dakota Prairie Grasslands, Flathead National Forest, Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, Idaho Panhandle National Forests, Kootenai National Forests, Lolo National Forest, Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest).

This collection contains January 1920 issues v. 3, no. 36 to v. 2, no. 35 published in December 20, 1930. In this early decade, the newsletter had many names. In April 1921, the newsletter was titled, “The Bulletin, Northern Region"; in October 31, 1929, it was titled "Northern District News"; and the final issue was titled, "Northern Region News."
