DescriptionThe county fairgrounds were located near todays North Park, northeast of downtown, in the 1890s. Constructed in the summer of 1892, the 20 acre area had an oval horse track, exhibit 'sheds' and the main fair building, with its eight sides and tower. The octagon hall, now an apartment building (it has been moved to its present location), hosted exhibits of vegetables, fruits, and flowers. The Yellowstone Fair Association held its first formal fair in 1897. With a growing city, The Yellowstone County Fair was reorganized and called the Midland Empire Fair. The first Midland Empire Fair opened in the fall of 1916 on the site of the present Metra Park grounds.
