DescriptionLake Elmo was previously known as Hollings Reservoir (or Lake) in the 1920s. It was named for Elmo McCracken. See 'New Bathing Beach Opens, Elmo McCracken will Manage Holling's Lake Resort', Billings Gazette, July 7, 1929. The Lake Elmo Club opened on May 23, 1931. See - 'Grand Opening', Billings Gazette, May 20, 1931. Home to the Carroll Whalen's, who played every Saturday night, the dancehall was a popular gathering place.
