DescriptionThis building, built in 1900, and altered significantly in just 10 years, was on the NW corner of North Broadway and Montana Avenue. One of the signs says that The Yegen Brothers business is across the tracks (on Minnesota Ave) and the trolley tracks can also be seen. Gene Lissa, who worked for Edward Leitzke, the sign painter, in 1920, said the sign (which was in Living Color magazine) was a copy of the 1912 painting, 'September Morn', by Paul Emile Chabas. It was painted in about 1914 and removed shortly thereafter after complaints from 'Billings clubwomen.' The Chabas painting is still at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
