DescriptionRock formation, east of Billings on the Yellowstone River, named in 1806 by William Clark, of the Lewis and Clark expedition, for Toussaint Charbonneau and Sacajawea's baby son, Pomp, a nickname bestowed upon the child by Clark. Jean Baptiste Charbonneau (Pomp) was born on February 11, 1805. Originally called Pompy's Tower. Site of later rendezvous by Stanley's Expedition (Custer) of the Yellowstone, 1873.
