DescriptionThere were a series of Custer Battlefield ('Custer's Last Battle') re-enactments on the flats between the railroad tracks and the Old Prison, just southeast of North Park. A line of railcars formed the southern end of the battlefield. On July 4, 1911, the performance of the sham battle was impacted by a mix of automobiles, horse drawn carriages, and crowds of people venturing into the battle grounds -A classic side battle of technologies, so much so, it was declared to probably be the last Custer re-enactment - -See 'Crowds Interfere With the Battle, Effect of Reproduction of Historical Event Ruined by Automobiles and Carriages', Billings Gazette, July, 1911.
