DescriptionLone Rock School, Bitterroot Valley, Montana. A note on the photographic negative reads, "The Stevensville history states that the brick Lone Rock School at Three Mile is the third building since organization of the district in 1885. It adds, 'Three Mile community had grown with the apple boom, and in 1913 bonds in the amount of $5900 were sold… in 1915 an additional $1700 was raised to complete and furnish the school.' In 1922 when this photo was taken, electricity still had not reached the area."TypeImageCreatorJohnsonsGenrephotographsDateCirca 1922SubjectBitterroot River Valley (Mont.)SchoolsSchool buildingsContributing InstitutionUniversity of Montana Mansfield LibraryGeographic CoverageRavalli County, MontanaTime Period Represented20th centuryDigital CollectionArchival Photographs from the University of MontanaDigital Formatimage/jpgPhysical CollectionFrancis Foster Powell Photographs, Mss 968Physical Dimensions4 in. x 5 in. negativeDigitization SpecificationDigitized at the University of Montana Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library.
