100 years ago Kendall hit its Peak

DescriptionHarry T. Kendall had purchased two claims in the North Moccasin Mountains in 1899, and from May through November of 1900, Kendall and a 25-man crew built a small 50-ton steam powered cyanide gold mill to process the ore collected from Kendall's adjacent open-pit mining operation. In November 1900 the Kendall Mill produced its first four bars of gold, worth $2,400. Kendall took the four gold bricks, via horseback, to the Bank of Fergus County in Lewistown. After standing in the line at the teller's cage, he dumped his four gold bars from his saddlebags to the counter and said: "I wanna open an account." The teller fainted, the bank president hustled Kendall into his private office immediately, and the word of Kendall's bonanza spread like wildfire.
