DescriptionAnnie (Oplanad) Lazzari in the backyard of her property on 10 Noble Street, Meaderville, Montana in 1937. In the background is a pigeon loft above and a coal and wood shed below. The car is a 1937 Hudson Terraplane owned by Martin Favero. From Louis Fontana's scrapbook "Lazzari was an immigrant from Norway, date unknown. She settled in Calumet, Michigan where she and Joseph Lazzari met and married. Shortly thereafter, came to Butte, Montana and operated a boarding house... They had no children of their own, however, they unselfishly raised the six children of Joe Lazzari's brother who were orphaned at an early age, some of which were previously sent to the orphanage in Helena. Among those children, was Santino (Sam) Lazzari, brother Mario, Edward, Gilbert, sisters Stella (Lazzari) Favero, Levia (Lazzari) Fior. They also raised Armando Petroni and Victoria Palagi. Victoria (Palagi) Fontana was one year old when her mother died at age 28. Annie and Joe Lazzari brought Victoria into their home and while never adopting, they raised her until her marriage to Joseph Fontana. Annie died in 1943 at age 85. Joseph Lazzari died in 1903 after being shot five times by an assassin named Francisci. The murder took place in a Meaderville saloon in the Bertoglio building that later housed 'Rex's' and the 'Brass Rail' and 'PERA's'"."TypeImageCreatorFontana, LouisGenrephotographsDate1937SubjectButte (Mont.) - HistoryMeaderville (Mont.) - HistoryAnnie LazzariContributing InstitutionButte-Silver Bow Public LibraryGeographic CoverageButte, MontanaMeaderville, MontanaTime Period Represented1935 - 1945;;Digital CollectionButte Digital Image ProjectDigital Formatimage/tiffProvenanceLouis FontanaSource 978.668 From Louis Fontana collection.
