Letter from Hoke Smith, Secretary of the Interior, to Captain George S. Anderson regarding the arrest of Ed Howell for poaching in the Park, dated April 2, 1894.

DescriptionLetter from Secretary Smith to Acting Superintendent Anderson, regarding Anderson's arrest of Ed Howell for poaching in the Park. Smith commends Anderson's actions, but states that since there is no law authorizing punishment of trespassers or poachers in the Park, Howell should be taken out of the Park and released, and his game and equipment confiscated. Smith requests that one confiscated buffalo scalp be sent to Department to be displayed in the office of the Secretary. Smith also sends along commendation letters for the brave actions of Scout Burgess and an unnamed Sergeant who captured Howell.
